Pioneer’s success is dependent on our unwavering commitment to deliver quality medical care. One of our medical staff members is an example of the Pioneer way, using the Three Pillars: Teamwork, Compassion, and Patient-Centric Care.

Dr. Bhavik Vala was inspired by his older brother to pursue a career in healthcare as he watched him attend medical school and ultimately become a Pediatric Pulmonologist. After moving from India to the United States, Dr. Vala earned a Masters in Public Health before starting his residency in Internal Medicine. Why Internal Medicine? It exposed him to a wide variety of pathologies and illnesses and allowed him to specialize in the evolving field of Hospital Medicine. From his early days of residency in Long Island, NY to working as a hospitalist in Chicago, Illinois, Dr. Vala ultimately settled in Florida where began his career with Pioneer at the end of 2015. Why Florida? He enjoys the beautiful weather with his wife, Pooja, and son, Dhruvin along with the ability to visit family in Orlando and Atlanta.

Dr. Vala has an appreciation for our hospital medicine process measures, achieving goal on all measures for 6 consecutive months! He credits his success to the collaboration and partnership he has with his fellow Pioneers and hospital colleagues. Specifically, his partnership with Emergency Medicine allows him to consistently admit patients in a timely manner, order all essential elements from evidence-based PowerPlans, and comply with our sepsis bundle. His attention to detail and understanding of the data objects that factor into each measure, allow him to identify systemic opportunities for improvement. For example, prior to accepting new admissions, he collaborates with the ED physician to determine the admitting diagnosis and initial plan of care. Most impressive is his unwavering ability to proactively plan for each patient’s safe discharge from the hospital. After he rounds in the morning, he reaches out to specialty consultants to form a collaborative discharge plan, anticipating medication changes and post-acute needs. He credits his impressive follow-up appointment scores to the support of Care 360 and ability to schedule patients with our Foundations Clinic.

On behalf of the Pioneer Quality department, we want to congratulate Dr. Vala on his exemplary performance over the past 6 months.
